First, you should not offer money for such a letter. Secondly, you can ask a colleague to write one for you. When you send a letter from a colleague, explain that the company had refused to write a letter for you. Include the phone number and the address of the company.

This is really stupid. Most of the people will not have valid stamping on an expiring passport.
San Francisco was fine. They gave me for 10 years in January.
Don't know what their policy now.

My brother in NJ got his new passport at NY Indian consulate (since old one was expiring soon). They gave new passport which was valid for only one year - saying that they need valid unexpired visa-stamp to give 10 year validity passport.
They said that they will NOT accept
- valid unexpired EAD
- valid unexpired AP
- valid 485 receipt
- even valid unexpired H1 approval notice (my brother still has H1 in addition to AP)
...Now it is so absurd that, even if my bro went for visa stamping (which he isn't planning), he will not probably be issued 3 yr visa as passport is valid for very short duration. A chicken and egg problem.
In addition why do Indian consulate worry about our visa status for determining passport validity duration ? If they do care then at least they must accept the legal documents (ead/ap/485 receipt/h1 approval notice) to make a decision.
I will appreciate if anyone has a solution to this problem. All answers appreciated.

Can anyone who has submitted an FOIA request to DOL for Labor docs clarify the process?
I browsed the DOL web site, but they don't seem to have a form similar to USCIS G-639 form.

Hello,
My case is unique. We applied for our AP(for both myself and my spouse) through our Attorney on October 21st and the online case status for our AP petitions changed to,
"Document Production or Oath Ceremony" on November 16th.
Our case notes also said,
"On November 16, 2009 we mailed the document to the address we have on file. You should receive the new document within 30 days. If you do not, or if you move before you get it, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283".
It has been 12 Postal business days since the document was mailed out and our Attorney is yet to receive it.
Today I called up USCIS customer service enquiring about my petition. I was told by the CSR that, the "Document Production" doesn't necessarily mean that the document was sent out. It merely means that the Petition was approved and they have moved on to the next step of "Producing" / "Printing" the actual document and once it is produced/printed, it would be mailed out. She also asked me to call them back, 30 days after November 16th, if I still didn't receive the documents.
Whatever the CSR said, contradicts the case notes which clearly says, the Document was mailed out.
Any advises on what I should do?
I have an upcoming Travel by last week of December and I would really like to have my AP document on hand before I exit out of the the country.
Any clues or advises would be highly appreciated.

Speaking of my personal experience, Yes, you can get an emergency appointment as returning h1b's are eligible for such appointments. Just send an email directly to the consulate and request for emergency appointment stating that you have to return to your project. I have done it before
It is advisable to carry all the LCA's, just in case, though the VO might just look at the current one. I am sure you will be taking all the other docs required.

PD and country of date are the FIRST & FOREMOST things that matter when it comes to getting ur GC. Just coz his friend got his doesnt mean anything. The friend could be from a different country or having a MUCH older PD.

I think the problem is with the Poll.
The moderator of the thread needs to correct it. I got my GC but when I try to go and poll change my status to card received it tells me I have already polled. Unless I am missing something.
So 74 people were current (not sure how many of them got approved) and 24 polled to say they got approved.
So mr moderator can u correct the poll ??
could it be true that only 23% of the folks who became current in May have got the approvals ? It almost the end of the month, I know that it need come in May but still...
or is it a case of people not bothering to come back here after the gety approvals -;)

Having shot 10's of thousands of pics on my cameras, I can tell you that I have formatted each of my CF cards only once, when I bought them. I've never had to reformat them for any reason. As Mats said, be careful not to pull them out of the camera when it's writing and you should have no problems.
There are many sensor cleaning threads here, but I'll echo the blower advice. The less you touch the sensor, the better off you are. I use an oilless diaphragm air compressor (for airbrush use, ~$100). It gives higher pressure air than a bulb blower, and has no propellants or oil in it that could end up on the camera. Most 'real' camera stores have sensor cleaning pads & solution these days. I too have used cotton swabs, and they will work, provided you don't leave any cotton fibers behind, which are a worse problem than the dust.

I came here to write physical therapy licensing exam on 8th OCT (same is mentioned as an annotation on my B1 visa) and now I passed the exam and licensed.
Now a hospital is ready to file a H1B work visa for me through premium processing and they want me to start working for them immediately.
Dear friends, kindly let me know whether its safe to change the status within 15 days of my entry. And if not how many days should I delay the filing of H1B. I would like to change the status here without going back to my country for H1B.
And also whether this will have any future adverse effect when I file the immigrant petition. Thank you very much for your valuable advise in advance.John

It basically states that if a person who entered to the U.S. for the FIRST time and changed status to a different visa category while in the U.S. before 60 days in the initial status have passed, that person might have committed a visa fraud and intended to do it in the first place. Do a google search - "presumption of visa fraud 60 days." I am sure of this as I worked for an immigration law office and we had a few clients with the same problem. After 60 days since you had arrived, that should not be a problem; generally speaking. I would recommend you speak to an immigration attorney before doing it, or request a H-1B visa approval with H1b visa to be issued in your own country instead of changing status in the U.S. now.
